Universal molecule

An enlarged universal molecule[1]

A universal molecule or monster molecule was a type of molecule that combined every known atom in its' nucleus. Because of this, it was capable of generating Kryptonite radiation.

Although far too small to be seen even by some microscopes, a universal molecule was capable of growing to macroscopic size within a thousand years of its birth.[2]

History[]

Earth-1A[]

In 1955, Professor Lewis Lang invented a cosmic energizer that was powered by a universal molecule. His invention went haywire however, and it unleashed powerful magnetic energy waves on the town of Smallville, causing a suspension bridge to be ripped up into the sky.

Luckilly Superboy sees it, and saves the day, by tracking down the source of the energy waves. It leads him to Professor Lang's laboratory, and he knocks over his cosmic energizer. Despite stopping the energy waves, Doctor Bourne, who was with Professor Lang in his lab, was glowing with radiation, because the energy from the energizer was slowly absorbing the life out of him. Superboy then asks what they could do to save him, and the professor told him nothing could be done without the universal molecule that was released when he wrecked the cosmic energizer. He then told Superboy that if he travelled about a thousand years into the future; by that point, the universal molecule will be grown to visible size. Superboy immediately travels to the future where he discovers that the universal molecule was being used by a man named Karg, which he used to become a dictator over the people of Smallville. He steals back the molecule, and pulls out its' nucleus and returns to his present, where the professor then uses the universal molecule's nucleus to disintegrate the energy that was surrounding Doctor Bourne.[3]
