Toyman

Toyman is a member of the Legion of Doom who uses deadly toys to plague his enemy, Superman, as well as the other members of the Justice League.

This jester-like incarnation is believed to be Jack Nimball. Jack replaced the first Toyman, Winslow Schott.

Background Information

The version of the Toyman who appears in Challenge of the SuperFriends was based on Jack Nimball. In the Earth-One universe, during the 1970s, he assumed the identity of Toyman during the period in which Schott retired from his criminal career. Nimball, wore a jester costume and used a similar modus operandi to Schott's Toyman.

Unfortunately, this version of Toyman proved short-lived. In November, 1976, in Superman, vol. 1 #305,[1] Jack Nimball is murdered by Winslow Schott. After killing Nimball, Schott resumes his crime career as the Toyman. It is true that this murder takes place in the Earth-One universe and the SuperFriends universe, Earth-1A is believed to share much of the same history. However, two years later, in 1978, the Toyman from the SuperFriends is seen alive and well in Challenge of the SuperFriends.

Then a few years later, a similar version of the Toyman appears in an episode of The Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Show, simply titled "Toyman." He is still dressed like a jester, but this time his costume is now red, green, and yellow, and he has a wind up spring on his back.

Notes

Jack Nimball first appeared in Action Comics, Vol. 1 #432[2] (February 1974).
