Toto was a giant super-ape with Kryptonite eye beams.
History
Toto was once a chimp astronaut that was sent into outer space and gets hit by cosmic rays. Superman rushes to save the capsule from destruction placing it back on the ground just as Toto suddenly grows right out of the space capsule turning into a monster sized ape. He grabs Lois Lane taking an instant liking to her. Superman tries to stop him and is faced with Kryptonite eye beams that the monster now has. But Superman shields himself with lead and defeats him.
Background Information
The comic book version of Toto first appeared in Superman # 127 (February 1959). After he was enlarged, Lois began calling him "Titano," which is what he is now more commonly known as. He was apparently inspired by King Kong, from the famous 1933 film of the same name.
