The Watermen was the sixteenth and final episode of the first series of the Hanna-Barbera's Super Friends series which launched the popular Super Friends franchise.

It featured the final appearances Marvin White, Wendy Harris and Wonder Dog in the animated series, although they still appeared later on in both the Superfriends comic series and in one episode of The New Adventures of the Wonder Twins.

The episode was fairly educational, as it dealt with the topic of marine biology and ecology. The antagonists of the episode, who weren't really villains, were the Water Men, an alien race from another planet. There's some noteworthy scenes in this episode, like the underwater chase scene with Aquaman chasing Holo.

This episode seemed to have a number of animation glitches, with many scenes seeming to be animated or storyboarded poorly. But as it was with many episodes from the first season, it certainly wasn't a highlight in the Superfriends franchise, but it was the final episode before the four year long hiatus prior to season 2.

Synopsis[]

The Super Friends close their first series by responding to ocean calamities when a mysterious red tide appears in the ocean that upsets the ecological balance of the sea. It is the work of Holo and Zara, a pair of water people from another planet who are trying to gather enough silicon to get their mother ship, inhabited by the rest of their people, home. The Super Friends are aided by Professor Matey and his submarine which is used as their base.
