The Planet of Oz was the eighth episode of the fourth series of Hanna-Barbera's Super Friends franchise.

Synopsis[]

Mr. Mxyzptlk turns SupermanAquaman and Wonder Woman into the Tin Woodsman, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz (the original book, not the movie). After they pass various dangers he reveals his plan was to have them collect for him the ingredients of a potion that will make it so he doesn't have to go back to the 5th Dimension. He still goes back when he says his name backwards because they figured out what he was up to and switched up the ingredients.

Plot Summary[]

A tornado sweeps through Metropolis. The Dynamic Duo try to stop the storm from both their helicopter and blimp, but it will not dissipate immediately. Batman warns Aquaman, Superman and Wonder Woman about the tornado approaching them. Superman thinks about neutralizing it with his breath, but Wonder Woman warns him that the storm is already on top of them. The tornado sweeps the Hall of Justice without demolishing it by taking it to a mysterious world based on Lyman Frank Baum's fictional region, Oz.

References[]

  1. Also called the Super-Freaks by Mr. Mxyzptlk.
  2. Also referred to as Super Dunce and Super Sap by Mr. Mxyzptlk. When after he's been transformed into the Tin Woodsman and starts to rust from the rain on Oz, Mr. Mxyzptlk then calls him a "Super Buffoon. Also, after Wonder Woman escaped the wild boars, Mxy looked to Superman and said: "Your turn Super-Turkey." He then starts gobbling like a turkey. He also called him Super-Scaredy and Super-Jerk after he started to rust. Later, when he's disguised as the Wizard of Oz he calls Superman "Super-Sapien," or at least that's what the Fandango at Home subtitles say. It honestly doesn't sound like he's saying that to me...but who knows. (Just for reference: to me it sounds like he's saying: "Super-Sap-Head." Who knows though...right?) He later called him Super-Stoop and Super-Simpleton. He later called him Smarty-Pants, Super-Fink and Super-Spoilsport.
  3. Also referred to as Aqua-Dummy by Mr. Mxyzptlk. After he was transformed into the Scarecrow and was nearly killed by falling from the Purple River's waterfall, Mxy referred to him as "Aqua-Fool." He later called him "Aqua-Squirt."
  4. Mr. Mxyzptlk also insulted Wonder Woman by calling her "Wonder-Wem; or at least that's what the subtitles for Fandango at Home said. It's possible they are wrong, however "wem" is an archaic word that apparently had something to do with someone who was flawed. It's possible that was the meaning Mxy was going for but without knowing for sure if that's what he said there's no way of knowing. Further research is required before any pages should be made. By the way, he also referred to her as a "Wonder Half-Wit" when she escaped the wild boars. Later, in the Royal Palace of Oz, he calls her a Wonder-Washout.
  5. Also mentioned by Wonder Woman.
