The Teen Titans are a group of teenage superheroes that came onto the scene some time in the 1960s. They were made up of some of the young sidekicks of the Justice League of America.

Background Information

The first incarnation of the team unofficially debuted in The Brave and the Bold vol.1, #54[1] (July 1964) as a "junior Justice League" featuring Robin (Dick Grayson), Kid Flash (Wally West), and Aqualad, the sidekicks of Leaguers Batman, the Flash, and Aquaman, respectively. The group then made its first official appearance under the name "Teen Titans" in The Brave and the Bold vol.1, #60[2], (1965) joined by Wonder Girl (Donna Troy), the younger sister of Wonder Woman. Green Arrow's sidekick Speedy (Roy Harper) later took Aqualad's place in the lineup.

The Teen Titans from a proposed animated series

In 1983, Hanna-Barbera began developing a new animated series based on the then-current version of the Teen Titans. It was "The New Teen Titans" and it was to follow the same universe of the Superfriends series. The members of the team included Cyborg, Wonder Girl, Changeling, Starfire and Raven. Wonder Girl would be the leader. Robin was not going to be a part of the series since he was already part of the Superfriends. The show never saw the light of day, however an anti-drug commercial sponsored by Keebler was released that featured the Titans. Plus another member is shown called the Protector, who was a new superhero to be Robin's replacement because Keebler was unable to use the character, as he was licensed by Nabisco.

Headquarters

The Titans original headquarters was located outside of Gotham City, in a cave that used to serve as an underground records storage facility for Wayne Enterprises. Bruce Wayne allowed them access to the cave as their headquarters, which they called the Titans Lair. Here, the utilized their helicopter for various missions. By the '80s, the Titans, which at this point was made up not entirely teenagers, moved their headquarters to Titans Tower, which was located on Titans Island, in the East River of the shore of Manhattan Island. This lair was more sophisticated and even had the shape of the letter 'T', which stood for "Titans."
