A "proof-of-concept" page from Tom Scioli, that never made it into the final version of the story, that featured the Super Friends gathering together to head to Apokolips.
Super Powers is a comic printed as a backup story in Gerard Way's Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye by DC Comics. It was based on Jack Kirby's Super Powers comics of the 1980s.
The writing and artwork of the comic was done by Tom Scioli, a comic artist known for his distinct Kirby-like style. The major arching story was about the origin of the Wonder Twins, which was contradictory to their previous origin story presented in the Super Friends comic. The reason for the slightly different history is because this story isn't actually set on Earth-1A, but rather on Earth 5C10L1.
The secondary story is on Earth, which deals with the prelude to an invasion from Apokolips, and although Darkseid doesn't appear, the Super Friends do meet the New Gods of New Genesis, who coincidentally also refer to themselves as "Superfriends."
Scioli had originally intended for the story to be longer, and it may continue in future issues in some DC comic, but for now the comic is over after issue number six, despite the fact that the comic it is a companion story to is still going on today.
One scene that was originally intended to be part of the story and may still will be eventually, was a scene that showed what Tom described as a "gathering of the troops" preceding an invasion of Apokolips, in which all of the superheroes "Do a Death Star run across the planet, and blow up the whole place...", said Tom Scioli in his blog.[1] One interesting inclusion in this comic page was the cameo appearance made by the Superman from the Universe of Evil, who according to Batgirl had apparently "broke out of his cage...", also in the scene are a number of heroes and vehicles, including the Hall of Justice, which was likely to remind people of their childhood playing with Super Powers toys.
The first part of the story was released on October 16, 2016, with part two released on November 16; part three on December 21; part four on January 18; part five on February 15; and the sixth and final part was released on March 15, 2017.
