The Elementals are spirits of the four main elements (Gnome, Undine, Sylph and Salamander). In order for them to be set free, and gain true souls, they must perform good deeds.
They are summoned into the world by Sandor Fane, aka the Overlord. He gives them human hosts to inhabit and tells them that the SuperFriends were their enemies.
He also gave them each costumes, that apparently do not fit their powers very well.
Since the 1960’s superhero cartoons had received good ratings there was interest in the early 1970’s in creating a new series; despite interest groups protesting alleged violent content.
Debuting on ABC on September 8th, 1973, the Super Friends concept would go through various incarnations providing DC Comics fans adventures through 1985 on ABC.
