A Star, sometimes called a sun or primary; was an astronomical object made of plasma and was held together by its' own gravity. They projected electromagnetic radiation called "starlight."
An outlined pattern of stars that could be seen from the skies of certain planets, namely Earth; were called constellations.
There were countless trillions upon trillions of stars located in the universe, with billions located in the Milky Way Galaxy alone.
Many worlds, such as planets, asteroids, planetoids, comets, meteoroids and asteroid fields circled around stars. These were called star systems, with the star being the dominant astronomical object in the entire system.
Some systems could be made up of more than one star, such as Alpha Centauri, among many, many others. The closest star to Earth was the Sun, which it circled around for countless billions of years. This star was a yellow sun, and therefore, a Kandorian, Daxamite or any species with any significant amount of Kryptonian ancestry would be granted amazing superpowers.
