Shaving was the removal of body hair, which was often done with the aid of a razor.
Men generally shaved their faces by applying the area they desired to shave with shaving cream, and then using the razor to trim the hairs down to the skin.
Women didn't generally have hair on their faces, but they did often shave their legs and other parts of the body that had unwanted hair.
