Season 8, Introduction
The Series 8 Opening Theme was the title sequence of Series 8 of the Super Friends animated series. It first premiered on ABC on September 8, 1984.
It featured the first appearance of the character of Firestorm, and it was one of the few times in which we see a character actually punch one of the villains. In this case it was Apache Chief who punched one of Darkseid's robots, which is possibly the reason why the censors ignored it, because it wasn't an actual person, but just a robot.
This animated short also featured the first appearance of the character Darkseid, who gets a more proper introduction along with Firestorm in the series' premiere.

Story[]
Superman's logo shines bright as the Man of Steel stands with his fists on his hips, as if ready to save the day. Just then, other Super Friends members arrive on the scene. Where they notice Firestorm in the sky above.
Wonder Woman points her finger into the sky at the young superhero as the other Super Friends watch him fly by, fascinated by his super powers, which he used to create the flaming words in the sky that said: "Introducing Firestorm."
His flight is brought to a quick halt, when he nearly collides with a giant robot. Just then the other Super Friends leap into action. Firestorm is stunned as he watches the team go into combat against this robotic menace.
Wonder Woman immediately reaches for her magic lasso and she lassoed the android by the wrist, as Apache Chief grows large and punches the villain in the face, sending it flying into the air and then splashing into the ocean.
The robot begins to sink further into the water, and Aquaman, who is underwater, rides on into the scene on Storm, and he telepathically commands his fish to charge upward into him, causing him to surface out of the water, into the hands of Superman, who grabs the robot, holding it by the butt over his head.
While nearby, in a Domed Fortress; Kalibak, Darkseid, Lex Luthor, Brainiac and Desaad have witnessed the superheroes defeat of their robot. Desaad then pulls a lever to activate a ray gun which blasts laser pulses or something similar at the Super Friends, although they miss the targets.
Immediately Superman throws the robot at the fortress, which destroys the robot on impact, which causes it to explode. The Justice League immediately storm the fortress. Batman uses his bat rope to tie-up all of the villains except for Darkseid. Firestorm uses his powers to create a catapult that he used to toss the supervillains into the stargate. Darkseid then angrilly shakes his fist at the Super Friends and escapes through the stargate as well. And thus the day is saved -- thanks to the Superfriends.
Notes[]
- Despite being the opening theme to Series 8, it's possible that this animated short is set in a different continuity. The reasons this is presumed go as follows:
- It was implied[1] that the first meeting between Darkseid and Brainiac was in The Wrath of Brainiac, but in that episode, he had already transformed into his far more robotic form, shedding his more Humanoid looking appearance that he had in the earlier episodes. The problem with this cartoon, is that he still has his old appearance from the previous episodes.
- This also seems to be an alternate first meeting with Firestorm, which was presented quite differently in The Bride of Darkseid - Part I.
References[]
- ↑ I say "implied" because it is vaguely possible Darkseid met Brainiac prior to the episode, which could explain his seemingly contradictory appearance in this cartoon. This is because Darkseid told Brainiac that he "looked nothing like him." That at least implies that he knew what Brainiac looked like, and so he might have met him before.
