A Business was any company or organization that was engaged in the selling and trading of goods or services.
Someone who engaged in such a business was sometimes called a businessman.

Buying, selling and trading[]
The businessman sold and traded while the customer bought. Buying, selling and trading was the primary purpose of business. The goal for businesses was to make money, so as to profit and also so that they could pay their employees.
Renting was similar, which involved a person giving another person money in order to borrow something that was owned by the person they payed their rent to. However this was only a temporary arrangement, as the renter was expected to return whatever they rented. In the case of renting a house owned by a home owner, a person usually payed a monthly rent.
