Red tides occurred in freshwater or saltwater when algae had a rapid increase in population.

Such red tides could often be harmful to marine life.

History

Earth 1956

Circa 1976, when the Water People began mining silicon from the oceans, this resulted in disturbing the ecological balance of the sea, and thus harmful red tide. But according to Professor Matey, it didn't behave like normal red tide.
