The Red Alert was an alarm device used by the Justice League Computer that was usually (but not always) meant to inform any member of the JLA that might be in the Hall of Justice that the other members of the Justice League had experienced defeat, and were therefore unable to complete their mission.
This was meant to put the rest of the team, should they have been available; on maximum readiness for whatever problem might arise as a result of their fellow team members failure.

Earth 1956[]
When Darkseid caused Mount Jupiter to erupt with his Omega powers, this incident caused the alert system in the Hall of Justice to initiate a red alert to the Superfriends.[2]
