Punching was a form of assault that involved striking a person with one's fist.
Also known as a "knuckle sandwich," it was common in martial arts, especially boxing.

When Superman and Batman fought against the Seaweedy People at Magic Mirror Lake, they punched them in their faces.[3]
When Solovar and Gorilla Grodd were engaged in Hand-to-Hand combat in Gorilla City, Grodd used a table to shield himself from Solovar's punches, still, Solovar simply punched a hole into the table and used that hole to restrain him.[4]
In 1980, when Superman and Kukulkan were fighting, Kukulkan attempts to punch Superman but he misses, but Superman's punch makes direct contact with him, destroying him.[5]
