Power was the energy that was used to turn on a machine. For example, an electronic computer was powered by electricity.
Power also could refer to the strength of a certain character; not necessarily their physical strength, but their mental strength as well as other abilities they might have possessed. Even someone with a strong influence on people, such as television or movie personalities and politicians; had some level of "power," in the sense that they could inspire others.
The same could be said in the case of governmental authorities or people who had a large amount of wealth.
Super powers were common among metahumans, mutants, superheroes and supervillains.
Some alien races also had power beyond the capabilities of Humans, such as Superman and Martian Manhunter.
History[]
Earth 1956[]
The Power Pirate was an alien who tried to steal power so as to power his spaceship.[2]
Doctor Lucius LeBon's Planet-Splitter was supposed to be powered by diamonds, although it turned out to be a failure, as the machine didn't work.[3]
