Possession was a word used to describe anything that belonged to a person. For example, if a person went to a dealership to buy a car, then that automobile would be that person's possession.
Sometimes a person may come into possession of something illegally, such as from stealing it. This was considered possession, but not rightfully so. Some spirits or other noncorporeal life forms had the ability to take possession of a Human body by entering their body and then taking over their minds while inside.
For example, the mutant known as Jericho was capable of transforming himself into a noncororeal lifeform once eye contact was made, allowing him to enter a person, and control the motor functions of their body. His ability was a bit different from Mind Control, as the people he entered were fully in their right mind, but were just unable to resist his control.
