Playing cards

Playing cards[1]

Playing cards were used for card games such as poker.

There were generally fifty-two playing cards per deck, plus a Joker; which was considered a wild card.

Playing cards were also used for a variety of different types of card tricks.[2]

Suits[]

The suits referred to the clubs, spades, diamonds and hearts, which every playing card had save for the Joker.

The Ace of Clubs told the gang of criminals that were about to be the Royal Flush Gang what was necessary for them to be members when he said "If you wanna play in this game, you'll need to have the right suits!"[7]

List of Cards[]

Wild Cards[]

Depending on the card game, there were multiple cards that could be considered "wild," but it generally only referred to the Joker.

Joker[]

Joker Card

Joker[8]

Every deck of cards had a Joker, and sometimes each deck had two. Generally the Joker cards had the image of a clown or jester on them. Batman's archenemy known as the "Joker" got his name from this famous playing card.

In 1985, when determining the secret identity of the Ace of Clubs, Batman noted that the House of Cards had every playing card but one. It was missing the Joker. That's how he determined that Ace was actually the Joker.[9]

Face Cards[]

When Batman fought Jack of Clubs, he said to him "It's just you and me now Jack - face to face cards!"[10]

Kings[]

King Cards

Kings[11]

The Kings were modeled after traditional medieval Kings. They came in clubs, spades, diamonds and hearts.

Queens[]

In 1985, when Wonder Woman was fighting the Queen of Clubs; she said "I'm ready for ya Queenie!"

Jacks[]

The Jacks were modeled after medieval knaves. They also came in clubs, spades, diamonds and hearts.

Aces[]

Ace Cards

Aces[16]

Aces were available in all four suits; including clubs, spades, diamonds and hearts.

When the Ace of Clubs introduced himself to the criminals that would eventually become the Royal Flush Gang; he said he was "your Ace in the hole!"[17]

Numbered Cards[]

There were cards that were numbered from 2-10.

These likewise all had four suits.
