A peanut was a species of plant. Peanuts were commonly used as food for a snack, particularly at carnivals and baseball games.
Professor Goodfellow offered peanuts as well as many other snacks to Marvin and Wendy when he was trying to get them to get in his van.[2]
Doctor Hiram Gulliver envisioned a world where everyone was shrunk by his Sonic Microwave Reducer, and in a world like that, a small bag of peanuts that would normally only be a mouthful for a regular sized person, would be enough to feed a person who is two-inches tall for an entire month.[3]
