Firestorm's super powers didn't seem to have any direct effect on anything that was organic.[1]
Organic typically referred to any form of matter that had a biological origin. In other words, it came from or it is (or was) a life form.
It should be noted organic matter didn't refer to every form of life, as there were forms of life that were inorganic, such as the Lava Men, Dryads and Rock Men, all of which were living beings, but they were made of material that was inorganic, namely rock-like matter that was silicon-based rather than carbon-based.
Shamonite was a gaseous compound that was capable of effecting both organic and inorganic matter. Shamonite Red would cause such matter to shrink, whereas Shamonite Green would cause it to grow.[2]
