An orange sun was a type of star that was fairly common in space.
The sunlight from an orange sun was capable of cutting a Kryptonian's super powers in half.
Although it wasn't as bad as a red sun, which could take away Superman's powers completely. Only the sunlight of a yellow sun could restore his abilities.[2]

Circa 1985; Superman, Cyborg and Firestorm were charting the Meridian star system, which had an orange sun that cut Superman's powers in half. When Darkseid came to that star system, Firestorm was forced to transform an asteroid into a miniature yellow sun in order to restore all of Superman's abilities. [3]
