According to some historical accounts, Nightwing was the superhero identity assumed by Dick Grayson sometime after he had left Batman to become a solo crimefighter, abandoning his role as Robin.[1]
Apparently Dick Grayson chose the name "Nightwing" because of a conversation that he had with Superman regarding a superhero from the shrunken city of Kandor that also called himself Nightwing.[2]
During this period, Jason Todd eventually takes on the role as the new Robin, and after his tenure as the Boy Wonder, Tim Drake assumes the role next.[3]

- ↑ It was never established in the Superfriends television series that Dick Grayson eventually became Nightwing, however multiple sources such as Super Powers products; especially Super Amigos labeled products, have shown him as Nightwing.
- ↑ This is conjecture based on Earth-One.
- ↑ Multiple Super Amigos and Super Powers comics have established this.
- ↑ As seen in Super Friends # 12 (July 1978).
