A monarch was a title given to male or female rulers of a monarchy.
A male monarch was called a king, while a female monarch was called a queen.
A prince or princess could also be considered monarchs as well.
The spouse of a monarch was called a consort.
Such a position was often held by someone until their death or abdication.

Aquaman was often referred to as the "swift and powerful monarch of the oceans."[2]
New Earth[]
In 2030, former superhero Hank Hall, better known as Hawk, conquered Earth and took on the identity of the Monarch, although he was technically a dictator and not a monarch.
This event was erased when Waverider travelled to the past and changed history, presumably undoing the Monarch's rise to dictatorship.[3]
