Marriage was the joining of at least two people, typically male and female. Such unions were often ceremonial by events known as weddings.

Typically, the female's last name was changed to the name of her husband's, but this differed from culture to culture.

The custom was practiced by many species, including Humans and Kryptonians. Marriage mates typically engaged in various forms of sexuality, and often reproduced and had children of their own, starting a family.

Amanda Hutchinson was engaged to marry a young man.^[2]
