A lei was something that could be worn around the neck, similar to a necklace.
They were especially common in many Polynesian cultures, but they were well-known in places beyond there too.

Lois Lane became a dancer at a club in Bermuda so as to see what she could learn from the locals about Captain Wildsharkk. Part of her dancing costume was a lei.[2]
