Land could be islands, continents and many other types. Sometimes land has been known to sink below the waters. An example of this was the long lost Atlantis, which sank thousands of year prior to the 1st century.
Although land was often referred to as dry land, not all land was dry; at least not always or not totally; such as swamplands, which were forested areas where many alligators and crocodiles dwelt in. Gullies were also a type of landform that were often times filled with water as well.
