Joseph Merrick (1862-1890); better known as the Elephant Man, was a circus performer in England.
He had many deformities, caused by some sort of unknown illness. His appearance was what led to him becoming an entertainer at a circus sideshow.

In 1982, when Hal Jordan was interrogating one of Goldface's henchmen, he told him to talk fast, unless he wanted the Elephant Man "making fun of the way you look."[1]
Victor Stone, better known as the Cyborg, sometimes considered himself "the Elephant Man's ugly brother." He felt that way when people stared at him after he became a cyborg.[2]
