A hound was a type of dog, native to the planet Earth.
They were often used for hunting, and as such; they were often good at tracking prey.

Circa 1976, when the Jr. Superfriends Marvin White, Wendy Harris and Wonder Dog were following Doctor Thinkwik as he was walking down a street; Wonder Dog accidentally ran into the back of him, which slightly angered the man who then shouted: "Down, Hound!"[2]
