A helmet, such as a hard hat; was something a person wore to protect their head.
Some type of helmets were worn by astronauts as part of their space suits, and others, such as the aforementioned hard hat; were used by construction workers.
Helmets were also worn by people who played sports, such as football, hockey and other games. The same could be said for people who rode motorcycles or bicycles.
In military organizations, helmets were also worn so as to protect soldiers, as part of their armor, like with Knights during the Middle Ages; and even the Vikings of Scandinavia wore helmets.
