In the '70s, a place like this is usually where you'd find a grease pit.[1]

A grease pit was a type of pit that a mechanic could go down into in order to have easier access to the bottom of an automobile.

When Marvin White and Wendy Harris were knocking on the door to Min & Max Trucking Co., Inc. and there was no answer, they assumed that the mechanic may have been down in the grease pit. Upon entering the building uninvited however, they noticed there wasn't a grease pit inside nor anything else to indicate that it was any type of truck garage.[2]
