A garbage can was a type of container used to hold garbage outside a building, especially in alleyways.
The garbage from the can was then emptied into the back of a garbage truck by the garbage man.

In Vienna in 1978, Gleek was hiding in a garbage can from Count Dracula's vampires (one of which was Superman) when he had transformed the Wonder Twins into vampires as well.[2]
