A film, also referred to as a movie or motion picture, was a production of moving images that were projected onto a screen in a movie theater.
There were a number of other names used to refer to a film, such as picture, moving picture, picture show, photo-play and flick. Most movies were fictional, with stories based upon literature or original stories. Some movies were played on television,[2] but this was typically quite some time after its' theatrical release. Although there were some films that were made for television.
It was very common to the extent that it was practically an American tradition for people that watch films to eat popcorn at the same time.
