Westerns were a genre of film, television and literature that often had a setting in the Western United States, especially during the American frontier.
Traditional Mexican music, ranchera, country music, bluegrass music and various folk music genres were often associated with westerns, often times used in the soundtrack of western movies.
One popular 20th century western movie was Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, which starred Paul Newman and Robert Redford.
