The word "summoning", usually meant to call upon some supernatural lifeform, such as a ghost or demon.
Sometimes it meant calling upon the dead, causing them to rise. This sort of summoning was considered an act of necromancy.
Such a super power was common for witches and sorcerers, or for any other people who may have some sort of skill using magic.
