Evolution referred to biological or technological changes in a species or culture.
Such a process could be incredibly slow, taking thousands or even millions of years, or it could be quite quick.
Sometimes evolution could even take a step backward. For example, the Atlanteans possessed technology that was incredibly advanced. This could have allowed the rest of the Human race to evolve advanced technology many centuries earlier, but since Atlantis sank beneath the sea, evolution took a step backward, and no such progress was made as quickly as it could have been.
