Eating was the ingestion of food by a person, especially when they were hungry. When consuming a beverage, this was referred to as drinking. The amount of food eaten by individuals varied depending on their diet.
Eating and drinking was essential for most life forms to survive, as one would starve to death without sustenance.
Drinking[]

Although a Human being could survive for a few months without food, if a person was to be deprived of water, they would die far sooner.
Sometimes the word "drinking" referred to the act of drinking alcoholic beverages, but technically it could refer to any liquid, such as water, milk, orange juice or soda.
Business[]
As eating was essential for survival, there were many businesses that were established by people that catered to people that were going to eat. Catering trucks were often used for that purpose, as they sold food in exchange for money, as did restaurants and grocery stores.
In some places however, food was far more scarce, and due to a variety of conditions, whether it be drought or some other natural disaster which would have an affect on the growth of crops, or just simple greed from the people governing or occupying the land; famine was the result.
Meals[]
Meals were generally part of most people's diet. Usually there were three meals in a day, and sometimes snacks, which were sometimes considered "in-between meals," but not a full meal. Typically there was breakfast, which was normally a morning meal and often thought of as the "most important meal of the day." Lunch was usually in the middle of the day, and it was often eaten at a person's workplace or in a cafeteria.
Supper and dinner were evening meals. Sometimes they were both considered the same thing, depending on the tradition.
