Powers and Abilities

Super powers

  • Superhuman Durability: Despero also has a high level of durability to impact forces, although he is not invulnerable, as Aquaman was strong enough to throw a piece of steel rebar into Despero's shoulder, as well as having a group of sharks bite into Despero, causing the villain to bleed.
  • Telepathy: His hypnotic third eye is directly connected to his brain, giving him telepathic powers that on one occasion have been depicted as surpassing those of the Martian Manhunter.
  • Hypnosis: He is also capable of projecting realistic illusions and entrancing virtually any sentient being.
  • Illusion Casting
  • Telekinesis: Despero can also project beams of telekinetic energy, move living and inanimate object with his mind and can create Telekinetic force fields that can withstand heavy impacts like blows from Captain Marvel.
  • Spirit Form: In his "spirit" form, Despero can possess any living being, granting the victim the strength and telepathic abilities of his own body.

Reality Warping: After being remade in the flame of the Py'tar Despero had gained the ability to twist time and space around as he saw fit, he demonstrated this when he twisted most of Gotham City into an ash & brimstone engulfed citadel infested with all manner of demonic oddities. he could even create creatures by morphing humans and inanimate objects, restructure buildings into ferocious dragon like creatures and reconstitute himself as a being of living lava & energy. He could basically control matter & energy for a number of purposes.

Despero appeared in the various Total Justice products. An action figure of him was made as well.

Despero made his first appearance in Justice League of America # 1 (November 1960).[1]
