Creepiness was an unpleasant feeling of fear or unease.
A variety of things could cause a person to feel such an emotion, such as people who act in a creepy manner, who were typically called creeps, or simply one's surroundings, such as a graveyard.
Even dolls were at times viewed as creepy by some people, as were clowns, old houses and certain statues such as gargoyles. One superhero known for his silly creepiness was the Creeper.

In 1977, when Beth was trying to convince Jody to take the bus instead of hitchhiking, Jody attempted to reasure her that she never accepted a ride from creeps. Still, despite saying that - she proceeds to get in the car of a man who clearly fit the very definition of the word "creep."[2]
