Colonel Vasta is an ex-officer exiled by his country who was involved with a plot to steal gold from an excavation site at a temple in the Amazon that was built centuries ago by the Incas. He was partnered with Doctor Rukus, who had a device that could control apes to be his own personal army, but the Doctor turned on him and had the apes kill him, but he was saved by Superman.
