A chauffer was generally a person employed by someone to drive them around in their car or some other type of automobile, such as a limousine.
They were distinguished from cabbies, because taxicabs were usually owned by the taxi drivers; not the person who hired them. This wasn't always the case however.

Earth 1956[]
A chauffeur was waiting next to a blue car parked near the grave of Bruce Wayne's parents at Gotham Cemetery. Alfred Pennyworth and the young orphan were present at their graveside. Alfred then tells Bruce that it's time to go, and the two of them head back to the parked car that the chauffer was waiting at, and the chauffer opened the car doors so that they could enter the vehicle.[2]
