This means he was hired by the Wayne family to be the caretaker of Wayne Manor.
Alfred's Earth-Two doppelgänger who was named Alfred Beagle likewise was the butler of the Wayne residence on his Earth.
When the Super Friends paid a visit to the Hutchinson Estate, his butler answered the door.[2]
