Ben Hur was a literary character that was the protagonist of the Lew Wallace book called Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, which was published in 1880.
The book deals with adventures he had during the period of the Roman Empire, as well as the struggles he faced since he was falsely accused of attacking the Roman governor.
At some point, he encountered Jesus Christ, and he became a Christian.

When Superman and Firestorm, who had time traveled to Ancient Rome from circa 1985, they were seized with the help of Steppenwolf, and brought to the Colosseum.
While all of this was happening Firestorm said: "Do I look like Ben Hur to you?!"[1]
