Battle of Fort McHenry

Battle of Fort McHenry[1]

The Battle of Fort McHenry was a conflict during the second-to-last year of the War of 1812.

It involved multiple British ships unsuccessfully attacking Fort McHenry.

Francis Scott Key witnessed this unsuccessful attack, and he was inspired to write a song, that would eventually come to be known as the Star Spangled Banner.

His inspiration apparently came from seeing the flag hung over the fort, almost like a taunt to the British.[2]
