An Absolute ruler or autocrat was a monarch or dictator who had absolute political power over a government, its' country and its' citizens.
Absolute rulers were considered above even the law, and were therefore not held accountable for any of their actions, unless they themselves were to fall victim to an assassination from a coup d'état, but even that would have been considered treason.
